My First Sighting of the Aurora Borealis

Advertisements

My first sighting of the wild Aurora Borealis happened last night at around 1025pm at the Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge. This area was a short drive from the house and was recommended by explorerfairbanks.com.

The temperature was a cold -21 degrees – so bundling up for the interesting occasion was a must. This area had a good amount of lights, which isn’t a good thing when you are trying to see the Borealis. The area was good as a first time experience in the Fairbanks area.

When the Aurora Borealis started to appear, it looked more like a faintly glowing line showing up in the sky. I did have to do some editing to the pictures shot from a GoPro Hero8 Black in order to show the green color.

I think this first experience was a good one. I know a fantastic shot can be had with more attempts in better locations and better conditions. Keep exploring.
